CV
Dr. Tara Hudiburg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences at the University of Idaho. Before coming to Idaho, she completed her PhD and MS degrees in Forest Science at Oregon State University and a postdoctoral appointment in Plant Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research investigates the impacts of climate, fire, and management on terrestrial biogeochemical cycling, particularly GHG implications. She uses data-model frameworks to improve and validate process-based models used for predicting future carbon cycle impacts in forest and agricultural ecosystems. She is an NSF Early Career award and PECASE recipient. Dr. Hudiburg has received over have received over $3 million (U. Idaho portion out of $110 million total) in federal competitive funding from NSF, DOE, USDA, and the BIA. She currently mentors 3 PhD students and 2 postdoctoral researchers.
Current Post Docs
Justin Mathias, PhD
Justin is a forest ecophysiologist who combines empirical and modeling techniques to investigate the effects of environmental change and disturbance on the physiological processes governing the fluxes of carbon, water, and nutrients in forest ecosystems. His current research focuses on the impacts of climate change, air pollution, and wildland fire on forest function from the leaf-scale to the globe, with a particular emphasis on identifying the mechanisms that control long-term forest carbon sinks. Justin integrates leaf gas-exchange measurements, stable isotope biogeochemistry, and dendroecology with process-based models to unravel the complexity behind forest processes and to make more informed predictions about the future of the coupled Earth-climate system.

Eric Walsh, PhD
Eric completed his PhD in 2018 in the ITEAM Lab and worked as a Post Doc on a climate smart agricultural project with the Nez Perce Tribe until his appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Forest, Rangeland, and Fire Sciences. In 2022, he became Program Director of the Climate Smart Land Network of Manomet. He focuses on helping land managers and owners address the productivity demands of working landscapes while mitigating and adapting to climate change.
